With the administrative support and coding skill of Shannon Watenpaugh and Reta Reed, respectively, Dr. Watenpaugh created this fractal infographic back when he was, well, Dr. Watenpaugh. He was a sleep medical provider from 2004 to 2016. He developed this linked infographic system to illustrate how untreated sleep apnea causes or contributes to a wide variety of other ailments, with references. He used it daily to explain to patients how their sleep apnea may be contributing to their other medical problems. He also used the infographic system in presentations at medical conferences to educate other sleep medical professionals. How is this thing fractal? First internally, then externally. On the front page, the color-coded fields lead to sub-diagrams. Click on one and see. Within the sub diagrams, each box or cell leads to the scientific references documenting that specific cause-effect relationship. Click on a cell you find interesting. Many of those references in turn link to their PubMed / Medline abstract entry. From there, you can go to the actual journal article for that abstract. Those articles will have electronic reference lists. So, you could click on a title of interest in a reference list to go to that article. And so on, and so on, and ... well, you get the idea.
Is it art? We think it is, but ultimately, that’s up to you, not us.
