Christ is Risen, Whattabout U?
Lyrics to the melody of the hymn “Jesus Christ is Risen Today”.
Inspired by daughter and son-in-law’s flippant attitude towards protective measures from the COVID-19 pandemic while in church, Easter, 2020.
The first two stanzas are their perspective, and the final one Mom’s.
Christ is Risen and all that stuff.
Haaaaleluuuiah!
Social distance bunch of fluff
So you love us what’s it to-oo ya
Just one mike for three people
Gonna spray our spit all over ya
Gonna sing until we shake the steeple
If you do not like it well then screw ya.
One of us went to the store before
Got some Charmin halleluiah!
Got more than we bargained for
Fever cough pneumonia
Now I’m on a ventilator
Dammit can’t sing halleluiah
Now I’m dead so see ya later
I’m so glad that I knew ya.
This is your Mom. Your Dad is pissed off
What he’d like to do to ya
At health guidance you did scoff
COVID-19 put an end to ya
And your end we can’t attend
Gravedigger’s gonna say goodbye to ya.
This stupid song is at an end
Haaaaaaleelluuuiah!
Adaptation of New York, New York in honor of Richard Del Cristo Sr.’s birthday
27 November 2020
Lyrics by Don Watenpaugh
Original Music by John Kander with Original lyrics by Fred Ebb
Start spreadin' the news, it’s Richard’s big day
‘cause he was born a part of it
New York, New York
He’s worn out some shoes, he’s come a long way.
Drove limos through the heart of it,
New York, New York.
With Tess he’s raised up three great children who love him deep.
And he’s not over the hill,
He’s theirs to keep!
He’s paid lots o’ dues to get to this day
from where he made a start of it
in old New York.
With Tess they’re quite a pair, their lives so full of prayer
And love they do, New York, New York
New York, New York
From there he’s climbed the hills life gives him even when steep,
And he’s still nowhere near done, gotta long list,
Doing God’s will, makin’ it fun,
There’s no time for blues! I’m belting away!
‘Cause my Dad got his start at it
Back in New York
It’s not just anywhere!
Let’s sing he came from there!
Richard for you, we thank, New York
Birthday Adaptation of Forever Young (original by Alphaville)
in honor of Teresita’s birthday, 4 July 2020
Lyrics by Don Watenpaugh, Music by Marian Gold
You dance in style, because you’ve been here awhile
No-one can wait, for Tess’s pretty smile
You’re just the best, and that’s by a mile
Mahal kita Mama!
You make our fam’ly be so strong together
You rock the house, ‘cause you never say never
Born on the Fourth, you exemplify
How when you want it you just got to try.
Do you remember, back when you were one?
Since that time, you’ve had lots of fun
But for all of us, you have worked a ton.
Do you know how much we love you?
Forever young
You teach us to be, forever young.
Your laughter’s gonna live forever.
Forever, and ever
Forever young
Look in the mirror and see, forever young
Your love is going to live forever.
Forever young
So now they say, you’re gonna be 53
Beautiful child from the Philippines.
With God and Richard’s help, she learned what it means
To raise a loving family.
You feed us all, until we’re all gonna pop.
You love to garden and you love to shop.
You do it all until you’re gonna drop
Because that’s how to spend your birthday!
So much fun, waiting up the way
So many songs, we have yet to play
So many dreams, for another day
Let’s make them all come true!
Forever young
Teresita you’ll be, forever young.
Your laughter’s gonna live forever.
Forever, and ever
Forever young
You know with Jesus you’ll be, forever young
Your love is going to live forever.
Forever young
Forever young
You teach us to be, forever young
On your birthday we love you forever
